牛津大學的科學家們稱，“人類最好朋友”的智力在數百萬年的進化速度要遠超不怎么合群的貓。

科學家們首次畫出了各種不同哺乳動物的大腦在六千萬年間的演變圖貓和狗哪個智商高，確定了它們大腦變化的巨大差異。他們發現，動物大腦的體積與其身體其它部分、它的社交程度有聯系。

研究分析了500多種活著的動物和哺乳動物化石大腦和身體體積的數據。猴子大腦的增大幅度是最大的，其它動物依次是馬、海豚、駱駝、狗。研究發現有相對更大大腦的哺乳動物群體傾向于生活在穩定的社會群體中，諸如貓、鹿、犀牛等更為孤獨哺乳動物的大腦增長幅度在同一期間要慢得多。

先前的研究稱，相對于身體體積的大腦增長速度的規律在所有動物種類中都是一樣的。在《國家科學院院刊》發表的這一研究報告推翻了那一觀點。研究表明貓和狗哪個智商高，不同哺乳動物種類的大腦增長模型存在著很大的不同，不是所有哺乳動物都有更大的大腦。研究暗示，喜歡社交的動物要思考更多東西。
